Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, has launched a new campaign aimed at rooting out spies for the Israeli government.
Col. Mohammed Lafi, a senior security officer in Gaza, said the campaign will be much more intense than previous ones, Israeli National News reported. Operation Pillar of Defense, a previous Hamas anti-spy effort, led Hamas to arrest several agents attempting to give information to Israel about intended attack targets.
Hamas, which took over control of the Gaza Strip in 2007, has shot an estimated 24 Palestinians accused of collaborating with Iraeli forces. Another 20 or so have been jailed, according to the Associated Press.
