A nuclear weapons watchdog group said Thursday that Syria has destroyed its capability to produce chemical weapons, in accordance with an international agreement and ahead of schedule.

A spokesman for the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons — who requested anonymity, because the group is still in process of shaping an official statement — said Syrian authorities have finished destroying all its equipment used to produce chemical weapons, and associated with the making of poisonous gas, The Associated Press reported.

Nov. 1 was the deadline set by the Hague group in charge of overseeing the destruction of the equipment. The agreement forged weeks ago was for Damascus to “render inoperable” all the country’s chemical weapon production sites and machines, AP reported.
