The proposed merger of the Albertsons and Safeway grocery chains is leading to new ownership for eight stores in Montana and Wyoming.

Associated Foods is buying Albertsons stores in Butte, Montana, and Laramie, Wyoming, along with two Safeway stores each in Missoula, Montana and Casper, Wyoming. The chain is also buying Safeway stores in Anaconda, Montana, and Sheridan, Wyoming.

Safeway and Albertsons announced Friday the sale of 168 stores in eight states as part of its effort to secure Federal Trade Commission approval for the merger.

The Albertsons in Butte and the Safeway in Anaconda will be renamed Stokes Market while the Missoula-based Orange Street Food Farm is buying the Missoula Safeway stores and changing their names to Missoula Fresh Market.

The Wyoming stores will become Ridley’s Family Markets, pending FTC approval.
