An Indian man has been charged by federal prosecutors for allegedly groping a sleeping woman aboard a United Airlines flight from Houston to Newark.

Devender Singh, a 61-year-old Indian national who lives in Baton Rouge, La., was taken into custody by the FBI after the plane arrived at Newark Liberty International Airport on Sunday, the Associated Press reported.

Prosecutors said the victim woke up after a nap on the flight to find Mr. Singh kissing her face with his hand inside her shirt. He was also allegedly touching himself sexually.

The woman pushed Mr. Singh off before walking to the back of the aircraft to tell a crew member what happened, prosecutors said. The woman asked that the police be present when the plane landed.

The woman did not know Mr. Singh.
