WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A lawyer who formerly worked at convicted Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein’s now-defunct firm has pleaded guilty to conspiracy for his role in the $1.2 billion fraud.
David Boden of Fort Lauderdale now faces up to five years in prison following his guilty plea Thursday in West Palm Beach federal court. He is the latest of more than two dozen people convicted in the scam, which involved investments in fake legal settlements.
Boden admitted in court that he worked with a broker on some of Rothstein’s phony settlements. In particular, Boden and the broker made false statements to one group of investors that lost about $2.4 million.
Boden’s sentencing was set for Jan. 9.
Rothstein is serving a 50-year prison term for masterminding the scheme.
