FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) - A painting of the nation’s fifth president is being unveiled at the James Monroe Museum in Fredericksburg this weekend.
The portrait will be on display Saturday at the museum in commemoration of Monroe’s 257th birthday.
The Free Lance-Star (https://bit.ly/1DyHIpU) reports that Yonkers, New York, art store owner Michael Meyer brought the portrait to the museum last year. Experts consulted by the museum’s staff authenticated the subject as Monroe.
The museum bought the portrait using private funds for $16,000 in March.
