READING, Pa. (AP) - An eastern Pennsylvania man has been formally sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole in the stabbing death of an acquaintance.
Thirty-one-year-old Julio Ortiz-Lugo of Reading was convicted in Berks County of first-degree murder in the November 2013 death of 35-year-old Juan Lopez-Bonilla.
Witnesses said Ortiz-Lugo broke into a Reading home through a second-floor window and stole a purse before going downstairs, where he got into a fight with the victim, who had been sleeping on a couch.
The Reading Eagle (https://bit.ly/1ESEHHR ) reports that he said nothing Wednesday before Judge John Boccabella imposed the mandatory term. The judge also ordered him to have no contact with the victim’s family or with his former girlfriend and her family, which includes at least one child who witnessed the slaying.
