BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont town of Brattleboro is starting to address improvements at its municipal center.

The Brattleboro Reformer (http://bit.ly/1bI41RH) reports it’s been about a year since the state Division of Fire Safety ordered $420,000 in fire and health safety improvements at the center.

The selectboard on Tuesday approved spending up to $80,000 on the fire alarm system, and to allow Town Manager Peter Elwell to come up with a plan for other work. The town has a Sept. 30 deadline to complete its plan and then must commit to completing the work within two years.

Some plans were ready late in 2014, but as Elwell was preparing to take over as town manager, the town asked for, and received, an extension.
