PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A federal judge has granted a restraining order to prevent a former payroll manager at Planet Fitness’ New Hampshire headquarters from distributing confidential company communications.
Judge Jon Levy signed the order Monday evening, just hours after Jason Cole was fired.
The company contends Cole, of Sanford, Maine, threatened to release what he called a “damning” email that he’d received in error with the aim of disrupting the company’s public offering last week on the New York Stock Exchange. The Newington, New Hampshire,-based company operates 56 fitness clubs nationwide.
The company contends Cole didn’t possess any personal data belonging to Planet Fitness members.
Levy issued an order banning Cole or anyone associated with him from releasing confidential information. But Levy stopped short of ordering Cole to turn over all electronic devices.
Cole’s lawyer said he is reviewing the order.
