CLEVELAND (AP) - Cleveland State University officials say the school will have its biggest-ever freshman class this fall despite an analysis that shows the number of high school graduates pursuing higher education in the Midwest has been declining.
Officials say 1,850 students have enrolled for classes this fall at the school located on the edge of downtown Cleveland. Officials say the uptick follows a longer-term trend at CSU, which has seen freshman enrollment double since 2010. This year’s freshman class is 15 percent larger than last year’s.
Not only will there be more freshmen at Cleveland State this fall, they will be smarter. Officials say the incoming freshman class’ grade-point averages and tests scores are higher than last year’s.
Total enrollment at Cleveland State is around 17,000 students.
