NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops says he’s given junior quarterback Trevor Knight a full release to seek a transfer to another school.
Knight started 15 games during his freshman and sophomore seasons and was named MVP of the Sugar Bowl as a freshman, but lost the starting quarterback job this year to Baker Mayfield.
Stoops praised Knight on Friday and said he understands him wanting to explore options to see if there is another place where he fits. Knight is on course to graduate this year and could be immediately eligible at another school.
He will remain with OU at least through the College Football Playoff.
Knight said he’s proud to be a Sooner, but feels he must look to see if there is a good fit elsewhere.
