LAPEER, Mich. (AP) - DTE Energy Co. and the city of Lapeer plan a new solar project to generate enough electricity to power 9,000 average-size homes.
The Detroit-based utility on Monday announced plans to break ground this spring on two projects totaling 45 megawatts. One of the projects about 45 miles northwest of Detroit will be 30 megawatts and the other will be 15 megawatts.
The utility says it earlier got state approval for a contract with Inovateus Solar MI LLC to develop up to 50 megawatts of power, allowing the Lapeer projects to move forward. DTE says it’s looking at sites to generate the remaining 5 megawatts of power.
DTE is developing five other Michigan solar projects. It says it expects to be able to meet state renewable energy requirements.
