NEW YORK (AP) - Mayor Bill de Blasio wants to power all of the government’s operations with renewal energy.
De Blasio said Friday that the city is seeking creative solutions. They might, for example, come from developers, power providers, financial institutions, energy brokerages and trade groups.
The goal is to identify new potential sources of renewable energy.
It’s another step in the city’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by the year 2050.
The city currently spends between $600 million and $650 million a year on electricity.
The director of the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, Nilda Mesa, says the city can use its purchasing power to “lead the way.”
Responses to the government’s request for information are due on Sept. 10.
