RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - A woman’s shelter in Vermont is getting a new playground in its backyard.
The Rutland Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1OzbB18 ) the Rutland Women’s shelter has been awarded a Verizon HopeLine grant of $10,000 to add a play structure with ladders, slides and swings to the facility.
The shelter applied for the grant after it was approached by Verizon New England.
HopeLine is a phone recycling program focused on the prevention and eradication of domestic violence.
Verizon official Michael Murphy says the donation to Rutland was one of 20 recent New England grants.
Avaloy Lanning, the executive director of the Rutland County Women’s Network & Shelter, says the grant also made it possible for the shelter to get new washers and dryers.
The shelter houses up to 12 women and their children.
