MONROE, La. (AP) - The Chennault Aviation and Military Museum will soon become independent from the Louisiana Secretary of State’s network of museums.
The News-Star (https://tnsne.ws/1JYgjVa ) reports that Secretary of State Tom Schedler traveled to Monroe on Tuesday to officially sign paperwork to allow the museum property to revert back to Ouachita Parish. The change will be effective on June 30.
Chennault Museum has been a part of the state’s network for the past 10 years. The school board owns the property and building.
School board attorney Elmer Noah says the agreement stated that if the state did not fund the museum at a certain level, the property would revert back to the school board.
Because of budget cuts, the state had planned to open the museum for only one day a week.
