SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A suburban Detroit sheriff says five 17-year-old boys had alcohol in a sports car before a crash that killed three of them and critically injured the other two.
The five teens attended Utica Community Schools, whose superintendent says grief counselors are on hand to offer support at the district’s schools.
Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham tells The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press that there was alcohol in the speeding Jaguar that went through a guardrail Friday evening and landed in the Stony Creek River. The site is in Stoney Creek Metropark in Shelby Township, 35 miles north of Detroit.
The crash killed Jonathan Manolios and Emanuel Malaj of Sterling Heights and Michael Wells of Macomb Township.
Wickersham said Monday that tests will show if the teens consumed alcohol.
