JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) - Two Star Valley men have been fined after wounding several elk while hunting and leaving the animals to suffer through the night.
John Barton and Kurt Bodily were cited for illegally shooting three elk on the south end of Munger Mountain. Barton was fined $420 and Bodily was fined $220.
Authorities say a witness saw the men shoot at the wapiti and then make no attempt to investigate the outcome of the gunfire or dress the animals. Two elk that survived had to be put down.
According to the Jackson Hole News and Guide (https://tinyurl.com/ohqs5mk ), the incident occurred Sept. 29, but some fines weren’t paid until April.
The men said they planned to return later to field dress the animals.
