LILLINGTON, N.C. (AP) - A student at Western Harnett High School in Lillington has been arrested and charged with bringing a gun on campus.

The Fayetteville Observer reported (https://bit.ly/1MVhZ3U) the 10th grade student was arrested earlier this week.

Sheriff’s Maj. Jeff Huber said that the 17-year-old girl also is charged with possession a gun with altered serial numbers and misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon.



Huber said the teen had a .380 caliber pistol with a magazine had had 14 bullets in it.

School spokeswoman Patrician Harmon-Lewis said the teen was stopped at the front office with the gun in her purse.

Harman-Lewis said she could not talk about any disciplinary action against the student.
