MINOT, N.D. (AP) - The zoo in Minot is debuting a new aviary that can house more than 21 species of birds.
Minot Park District executive director Ron Merritt tells the Minot Daily News (https://bit.ly/1Mcrwit ) that the aviary will provide an opportunity for additional year-round recreation for the community.
The historic Souris River flooding in 2011 shut down Minot’s Roosevelt Park Zoo and forced the evacuation of birds and other animals. More than 200 of the Roosevelt Park Zoo’s animals were kept in zoos and a wildlife park around the country after the river flooded the grounds and a good portion of the city. The animals have returned to the facility.
The zoo will offer free entrance Nov. 27-28 and Dec. 28-30, but donations will be accepted.
