LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - University of Wyoming students are working to pass a law that would change the way student emails are labeled as public or private documents.
The Laramie Boomerang reports (https://bit.ly/1FjqEM8 ) that Associated Students of the University of Wyoming President Brian Schueler is collaborating with the digital information privacy task force and the Wyoming Press Association to create legislation that would better describe how the emails should be labeled under the Public Records Act.
The legislation could go before the Wyoming Legislature next year.
UW spokesman Chad Baldwin says student emails are controlled by the university, but the records requests are screened before documents are handed over.
