ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Musicians and scholars will gather in Rochester next month to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the installation of a restored 18th-century Italian Baroque organ.
The Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester says the four-day celebration will be held Oct. 22-25 at the university’s Memorial Art Gallery.
The rare organ was sitting in an antique store in Italy about to be sold off for parts when it was rescued and restored under an initiative by the Eastman School. The instrument’s reconstruction was the first in the school’s plan to assembly a collection of new and historic organs throughout Rochester.
So far, 11 organs have been installed in various locations in the city.
October’s four-day event will include free recitals, master classes, concerts and talks.
