PANORA, Iowa (AP) - Authorities say a man was wounded by a shot from his own rifle in a Guthrie County shooting range accident.

The accident occurred a little before 1 p.m. Sunday at Bays Branch shooting range near Panora. Authorities say the man propped his .17-caliber rifle on some sandbags on the shooting bench when he went down range to fix his target. As he was re-placing his target, the rifle fell off the sandbags and fired. The bullet went through the man’s left arm and struck his upper torso.

He was taken to a Des Moines hospital. The Iowa Natural Resources Department identified him as 33-year-old Jeremy Cooper, of Bagley.
