ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A New York lawmaker has proposed banning political fund-raisers in the Albany area while the Legislature is in session.
Assemblywoman Sandra Galef, a Westchester Democrat, has introduced 15 bills, including another that would create “a firewall” barring political consultants from lobbying ex-clients.
She also proposes term limits for lawmakers in leadership positions in the Senate and Assembly, something the Republican-controlled Senate has backed.
Other bills would restrict transfers of campaign funds between political candidates and restrict campaign contributions by companies doing business with the state.
Galef cited a recent Siena poll showing 89 percent of New York voters say political corruption in state government is a serious problem.
Last year, the former leaders of the Assembly and Senate were convicted of federal corruption charges for peddling their influence.
