SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - A high-tech engineering and manufacturing corporation in Sparks has secured a NASA contract for an unmanned shuttle.

KOLO-TV in Reno reports (https://bit.ly/1RMSoy0) that Sierra Nevada Corporation was awarded the contract Thursday for its Dream Chaser shuttle.

Company spokeswoman Brooke Salkoff says the contract will open the door for Sierra Nevada to do more commercial initiatives.

The Dream Chaser is a folding-wing aircraft that will transport cargo to and from the International Space Station starting in 2019.

The aircraft will be built in Colorado.

Salkoff did not disclose the terms of the contract but the company expects to be hired to service the shuttle as well.
