BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - A former Southeast Texas police officer has received probation and will give up his law enforcement license as part of a plea agreement for teaming up with a man- who impersonated an officer - to defraud a firearms dealer.

The Beaumont Enterprise (https://bit.ly/1U6wd7E ) reports Keith Breiner pleaded guilty last month to a misdemeanor count of abuse of official capacity for signing a letter that requested a rifle from the dealer for the law enforcement agency.

Authorities say the letter was sent to the gun manufacturer in 2013 by Michael Gelagotis (gehl-uh-GOH’-tuhs), who last month was sentenced to 10 years in prison for pretending to be a police officer.

Investigators are not sure whether Gelagotis ever got the weapon.

Doug Barlow, Breiner’s attorney, says the plea agreement was a “fair resolution.”
