ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York state lawmakers plan to adjourn for the year later this week - but Gov. Andrew Cuomo is giving them a to-do list first.

The Democratic governor wrote to lawmakers Monday with a list of six priorities for the final push before adjournment.

The first three items are a plan to address the rise in heroin and opioid addiction, increased access to breast cancer screenings and governmental ethics reforms.

Rounding out the list are tighter rules on spending by independent political groups, safer rail crossings and changes to state liquor laws - including the so-called “brunch bill” which would allow restaurants and bars to serve alcohol before noon on Sundays.

Lawmakers will return to Albany Tuesday to begin what they hope will be three final days of work.
