NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Longtime supporters of Old Dominion University have donated $35 million to the school to help build a 24,000-square-foot art museum.
The Virginian-Pilot (https://bit.ly/1XahusL ) reports that the donation by Richard and Carolyn Barry is the largest in the school’s history.
The Barrys will provide money to build the museum and help pay for operational support through annual gifts and endowments.
The two-story museum will feature more than 100 of the couple’s art glass sculptures in addition to paintings. It will be fronted by a thick wall of architectural glass and will be built near the university’s main entrance on the corner of Hampton Boulevard and 43rd Street.
ODU President John Broderick says the school expects to break ground in 2017 and to complete the building in 2018.
