TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - Traverse City commissioners have rejected a project to rebuild a parking lot and boat ramp along the Boardman River.
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/2cjpbI1 ) that commissioners on Monday had concerns that the proposed design for the new lot, ramp and connecting ramp to a boardwalk would be costly and that the parking lot itself was a bad design for riverfront property.
Plans called for the roughly $462,000 project to be funded by city money and state grants.
Mayor Pro Tem Ross Richardson said commissioners had lost sight of the project’s purpose to improve an access point to the river and Grand Traverse Bay. Plans also called for a universally accessible kayak and canoe launch following a donation from Hagerty Insurance.
