Actress Ashley Judd marked her 58th birthday by throwing a party celebrating her “inner 12-year-old,” news outlets report.

Ms. Judd on Tuesday shared an Instagram recap showing how she and close friends celebrated with a decorated cake, square dancing and hairbrushes to sing into while Casey Kasem’s Top 40 hits played in the background.

Last year she observed her “inner 9-year-old,” she said.

Ms. Judd said she didn’t remember any of her childhood birthdays. “There was no parent supporting, nurturing, guiding and reinforcing my learning, delighting in, or protecting that little girl,” she posted.

She described celebrating the inner child as giving adults the chance to heal unmet childhood needs.

“Today, as adults, we can listen carefully to those missings,” she posted, “supplying that, now, with love and humor to ourselves.”

Ms. Judd has spoken openly about her difficult childhood and experiencing depression during that period.

She is the half-sister of Wynonna Judd and daughter of Naomi Judd, of the country singing duo The Judds.
