George Clooney says he survived a series of 65th birthday surprises this month from his wife, Amal — but just barely, news outlets report.
“It’s a dangerous thing to surprise someone when they turn 65 because you could drop,” the Oscar-winning actor/producer told British Vogue at the King’s Trust 50th Anniversary Celebration at Royal Albert Hall in London. “That could be the end of you.”
Ms. Clooney said she arranged “a number of things” for his birthday, including having friends secretly dress up as waiters to surprise him. The couple did not say where the celebration took place.
People reported that the Clooneys were seen having lunch with friends in St. Tropez last Thursday, a day after his birthday.
Mr. Clooney quipped that he is “still standing” but only “barely.” When asked for parenting advice for the couple’s 8-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander, he said, “Don’t mix grain and grape.”
The Clooneys, married since 2014, live primarily on a farm in Provence, France.
Mr. Clooney said he chose to raise his family there, away from Hollywood, because “France — they kind of don’t give a [expletive] about fame,” adding that he did not want his children “walking around worried about paparazzi.”
