Teddy Roosevelt reported to camp yesterday and was spotted doing sit-ups and working out with Nationals players.
Our 26th president was winless in 37 races at RFK Stadium last season, and he apparently is determined to find the winner’s circle this year.
Somebody asked whether Teddy was going to take batting practice. A team official replied, “We think he is too tall to fit into the cage.”
The players know Roosevelt is in training and made efforts to help.
After working out, Roosevelt went to the concession stand and bought a hot dog. Before he could jam the frankfurter down his throat, Jason Bergmann rushed over and ripped the hot dog out of his grasp.
Bergmann waved his finger back and forth to Roosevelt, meaning hot dogs are off limits to anybody in training — except right-handed pitchers, apparently.
After warning Roosevelt off snacks, Bergmann downed Teddy’s dog himself.
