Opening Day proved to be something of a disaster for the Nationals, and not only on the scoreboard. Besides the final score, here’s everything that went wrong:
Logan, Guzman hurt: Center fielder Nook Logan (left)and shortstop Cristian Guzman each left the game with injuries. Logan hyperextended his left foot making a leaping catch in the fourth. Results of an MRI will be available today. Guzman suffered a mild left hamstring strain in the fifth and will be re-evaluated today.
Patterson struggles: Ace John Patterson never looked comfortable on the mound and was lit up for six runs on seven hits in 32/3 innings. Patterson had all sorts of trouble commanding his breaking balls and paid the price for it.
No offense: Washington’s lineup barely put up a fight against Dontrelle Willis. Aside from Ryan Zimmerman and Dmitri Young, who each had two hits, the Nats looked overanxious at the plate and failed to string together any rallies.
