LAST NIGHT AT VERIZON CENTER

SEEN AND HEARD

Alex Ovechkin emerged from the Caps locker room a couple of hours before the game last night sporting a thick white headband, but that wasn’t what caused the commotion — it was the gap in his ear-to-ear grin. Ovechkin took a stick in the mouth during the third period last night, and it broke one of his top front teeth. He had the tooth removed and also had 14 stitches in the bottom part of his mouth.

QUOTABLE

“He’s like the [10,000] to 15,000 other hockey players who are missing a tooth. … If you can’t play after having teeth knocked out, you need to find another sport.”
