Around 2 p.m. today, I reported — based on a phone call with a Transportation Safety Administration/Department of Homeland Security phone-answering employee — that laptop computers were banned from carryon items on aircraft.
It seems that this had changed one hour before my call to TSA, but word had not reached the lower echelons, perhaps. Here’s the official “FAQ,” from the agency’s Web site:
Laptops, cell phones and other electronic items
Question
Media have also reported that laptops, cell phones and electronic items are no longer allowed. Is that true?
Answer
No. TSA continues to allow laptop computers, cell phones and other electronic items.
Check back there to see what happens, if you’re traveling any time soon. For now, though, it appears that common sense has prevailed.
