A few days ago, the C-Net online news service had a couple of lines from Dallas Mavericks owner (and online media billionaire) Mark Cuban on the usefulness of someone buying the YouTube service:
Cuban said “anyone who buys that (YouTube) is a moron” because of potential lawsuits from copyright violations. “There is a reason they haven’t yet gone public, they haven’t sold. It’s because they are going to be toasted,” said Cuban, who has sold start-ups to Yahoo and CompuServe.
Now comes The Wall Street Journal’s e-mail alert with this tidbit:
Google is in talks to acquire video-sharing site YouTube in a deal that could be worth $1.6 billion. The talks are still in a sensitive stage, and could still fall apart.
I have no idea what will or will not happen, and I’m not a financial wizard, but few people have called Google’s leaders “morons,” so perhaps Mr. Cuban will have some crow to dine on soon.
