Hoyas Report

Seen and heard last night at MCI Center:

IT’S GEORGETOWN’S FLOOR — This weekend’s BB&T Classic at MCI Center will be played on a floor with Georgetown’s logo though the school wants nothing to do with the tournament. With Georgetown meeting Davidson at 8 p.m. Saturday, MCI Center personnel won’t have enough time to replace the floor once the BB&T’s second game — George Washington against West Virginia — ends around 5:30 p.m. Decals will be placed over the Georgetown logos on the court, but there was no word on how arena personnel intend to cover up “Georgetown” and “Hoyas” beyond the baselines.

ALOHA, HAWAII — Georgetown has agreed to play in the Rainbow Classic next season, joining a strong field with Southern Cal, LSU, Clemson, Alabama-Birmingham, Long Beach State, Indiana State and Hawaii. The tournament takes place each year after Christmas at the University of Hawaii.

MIKE SWEETNEY TRIVIA — In the years since Georgetown’s Patrick Ewing was selected as the top pick in the 1984 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks, only two Knicks draftees were selected higher than Mike Sweetney (ninth overall). Can you name them?

Answer: Kenny “Sky” Walker, No. 5 in 1986 out of Kentucky, and Brazilian Nene Hilario, who was taken seventh last season and immediately traded to Denver.
