President-elect Barack Obama is expected to name Nobel-prize winning physicist Steven Chu his energy secretary, sources familiar with the Obama transition team said Wednesday.
Mr. Chu, who is head of the Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory at the University of California, would take the reins of a department whose chief task in the past has been the protection and control of the nation’s nuclear energy resources and nuclear weapons supplies.
The Obama transition team did not immediately return e-mails seeking comment.
