By Carisa Chappell SPECIAL TO THE WASHINGTON TIMES

The white brick house near the corner of Woodside Parkway in Silver Spring has a charming presence inside and out. Much more spacious than it looks from the outside, thanks to a huge kitchen and family room addition in the rear, the house is in the community of Woodside Park, off Georgia Avenue at 1411 Woodside Parkway.

It is on the market for $959,000.

Upon entering the home, guests see an arched entryway. An inviting living room is immediately to the right of the front door. The home boasts fine custom finishes and quality European imports throughout.

A fireplace is the highlight of the living room, helping to make the space inviting for formal and casual entertaining. Hardwood floors gleam on the main level and plantation shutters provide an accent in many of the rooms.

The living room opens into the formal dining room where a trendy chandelier and crown and chair-rail molding set the tone. There's a glass-panel door in the back of the room that opens to reveal a study. Its location in a private area of the home makes the room ideal for an office or library. It has two closets and also can be used as a spare bedroom.

When renovating the home, the owners turned the former kitchen into an extravagant butler's pantry with Italian marble tile floor, granite counters, a backsplash with marble accents and cherry cabinets. The room-size butler's pantry also features a wine cooler, built-in wine glass storage, wet bar and a dishwasher.

The butler's pantry is also where the original house ends and the 2004 addition begins. An entryway leads into a spacious open kitchen and family room. Both rooms benefit from a dramatic cathedral ceiling with a ceiling fan and complement one another in the space they share.

The kitchen has granite counters and stainless steel appliances, including a gas cooktop, dishwasher, refrigerator and wall oven with a separate warming drawer. The custom-painted solid-maple cabinets that line the kitchen offer ample storage space, and several of them have decorative glass fronts.

A peninsula breakfast bar separates the kitchen from the eating area, providing options for grabbing quick snacks or having comfortable, casual meals that can be enjoyed without leaving the family hub. Nearby, a fireplace with an antique knotty-pine mantle is the focal point in the well-appointed family room.

Visitors will be impressed by the screened porch in the rear of the home. The porch was recognized by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, which gave the home an award for its stylish design. The porch is framed in solid, stained cedar and features a screened Palladian window. Other highlights include ceiling fans, recessed lighting and crown molding with cove lighting.
