DEVELOPING:

LAROSE, La. (AP) — Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre says a middle school student shot himself after shooting at a teacher and missing.

Sgt. Lesley Hill-Peters, a sheriff’s spokeswoman, says the boy is in critical condition at a hospital in Galliano.

Webre says the 15-year-old fired one shot into a classroom at Larose-Cut Off Middle School but did not hit anybody. He says the student then ran into the boys’ bathroom and shot himself in the head.

Webre says the school was locked down, and students were being taken to a nearby VFW hall.

Larose is about 45 miles southwest of New Orleans.
