How did you get started in real estate? I went to school to become a lawyer and worked as a paralegal assistant for a few years and decided law was not my thing. My father went to Virginia Military Institute with Wes Foster, the owner of Long & Foster Real Estate Inc. My dad suggested I call his old schoolmate, Wes.
How long have you been with the current company? 21 years
Licenses: Licensed in the District, Virginia and Maryland
Awards: Top agent in office, 1995 to 2008; No. 1 in transactions in the District and Maryland for Long & Foster, 2008; many other awards and designations
Greatest accomplishment in the past 12 months: Spending more time with my children
Area of specialty: The District, condo market
Highest-priced home sold: $2,450,000
Most memorable house: I sold a house about 17 years ago that was the toughest sale I’ve ever had and one of the smallest commissions I’ve ever earned. The tenants were all drug addicts. They were not paying any rent, and they proceeded to get the owner fined for property condition infractions. Prior to closing, they cut all the gas lines and electrical service to the property because they knew the owner smoked. I guess they were hoping he would enter the house with a lit cigar and blow up! At the conclusion of the sale, the owner ended up having to pay each of the six tenants $2,000 to move out (on a $80,000 sale).
Worst experience buying or selling a house: The experience above was both gratifying and depressing.
