Semin knotted the score at 4-4 with a power-play goal at 8:18 of the third. Backstrom made a great one-handed play to get the puck to Semin, who netted his second multigoal effort in as many games.

Seventy-four seconds later, Morrison’s goal was upheld after an official review. It appeared the Caps might steal two points despite their lack of discipline and suspect goaltending.

“We came in after the second [period] talking about not taking penalties, and we took one again there with five minutes left or whatever,” said Mike Knuble, who was facing the Flyers for the first time since joining the Caps this summer. “Those are the things you learn, and we’ll learn that as a team.”

Note - Defensemen Brian Pothier and Tyler Sloan and center Michael Nylander were healthy scratches.
