ATLANTA (AP) - South Carolina tailback Marcus Lattimore suffered a cut to his mouth on a big hit by Florida State cornerback Greg Reid, and his return to the Chick-fil-A Bowl was doubtful.
Lattimore, the star freshman who did not lose a fumble in the regular season, lost the ball when hit by Reid on South Carolina's first possession on Friday night. Linebacker Kendall Smith picked up the fumble and returned the ball 46 yards as Lattimore remained on his back.
Trainers hurried off the sideline to surround Lattimore before the play ended. He was helped off the field and had an ice pack on his chin for the Gamecocks' next possession.
Brian Maddox took over for Lattimore at tailback.
