‘Idol’ alum Brooke White to star in TV movie

NEW YORK (AP) - "American Idol" contestant Brooke White is following in the footsteps of Jennifer Hudson.

The 27-year-old White recently made the leap into acting. She will star in an upcoming TV movie called "Change of Plans" with no professional acting experience.

Fellow "Idol" alum Hudson had no acting experience when she was cast in the movie "Dreamgirls." She won an Oscar for her performance.

White will play the lead role of Sally Danville, a singer/songwriter who becomes guardian of her best friend's four children after an accident. The movie also stars Phylicia Rashad and has a cameo appearance by "Idol" judge Randy Jackson.

White, who placed fifth on the seventh season of "Idol," says she was honest in her audition about being new to acting.

"I told them, 'Look, I have no acting experience,' and they were like, 'Great! We'll take you!'" White recalls with a laugh. "It turned out to be the most enjoyable, wonderful experience, and I just fell in love with acting."

Jackson was executive producer of the second of White's two studio albums. He is also executive producer on the "Change of Plans" soundtrack, which features three songs by White.

"I have known and worked with Brooke for years now, and it was great to collaborate with her once again," Jackson says. "To witness her performance in 'Change of Plans' was amazing. She is a natural and was born to add acting to her list of talents."

White returns the admiration for Jackson: "It's hard for me to adequately describe just how good of a person he is. He's just a genuine human being."

She hopes he will get more attention on the upcoming tenth season of "American Idol" as the remaining original judge on the panel, alongside Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

"Change of Plans" premieres at 8 p.m. EST on Jan. 8 on Fox.
