Nursing home fined, may lose license

BALTIMORE (AP) — Maryland regulators are fining the Ravenwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Baltimore $52,500 after the building’s air conditioning broke, sending temperatures inside above 90 degrees over the Fourth of July weekend.

The Office of Health Care Quality found four significant deficiencies at the center, including failing to maintain proper air conditioning and heating and failing to store, prepare and serve food under sanitary conditions.

State officials say the center could lose its license and they’re recommending similar federal fines for lapses at the facility.

Ravenwood Healthcare Inc. issued a statement Wednesday thanking the state and city for assistance during the incident.

All 150 patients were transferred and the facility remains empty.
