Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, Texas Republican, said Wednesday she will finish her Senate term ending in 2012.
“This has been a hard decision,” she said at a press conference in San Antonio. “I really did intend to leave … but the stakes are so high.”
Mrs. Hutchison said concerns about the federal government’s increasing debt was a major reason for her staying.
She recently lost the Republican primary election for Texas governor against incumbent Rick Perry.
