HOUSTON (AP) - The Chicago Cubs signed top draft pick Javier Baez to a minor-league deal with a $2.6 million bonus on Monday night.
Baez, a high-school shortstop from Jacksonville, Fla., was the ninth overall pick in the draft. Chicago also signed their second-round pick, first baseman Daniel Vogelbach.
Overall, the Cubs signed nine of their first 10 picks and 18 of their first 20 picks, including Shawon Dunston Jr., son of the former Cubs shortstop. Dunston Jr., taken on the 11th round, agreed to a $1,275,000 signing bonus
