Redskins QB John Beck injures groin

- The Washington Times - Saturday, August 6, 2011

Quarterback John Beck endured a setback in his quest to win the Washington Redskins' starting quarterback job when he left team drills Saturday afternoon because of discomfort in a groin muscle.

Beck was injured while scrambling on a play during 11-on-11 work.

"I felt a little something, so I didn't feel like I needed to push it," he said after practice. "I don't think it's going to be anything serious. I was just trying to be precautionary so it doesn't end up being anything serious."

Quarterback Rex Grossman finished practice with the first-string offense, and third-string quarterback Kellen Clemens worked with the second team.

"I was mad," Beck said. "You want to be out there. Those are reps that I want to be taking, reps that were designated to me, and I want to be out there taking them because all those things are going to help me."

Redskins players and coaches had the rest of Saturday off, and Sunday is a scheduled off day for players.

Washington hosts Pittsburgh in the preseason opener Friday.
