A Centreville man was killed in a Monday night car crash when he took a left turn into the path of another vehicle, Fairfax County police said.
The man, 72-year-old Charles V. McCormick of the 5700 block of Ottawa Road, was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time after the crash.
Police say that Mr. McCormick was driving a 1984 Oldsmobile two-door southbound on Centreville Road at about 7 p.m. Monday. As Mr. McCormick's vehicle approached Compton Road, he made a left hand turn into the path of a 1999 Mercedes SL500 that a 70-year-old Leesburg man was driving in the other direction. According to police, the Mercedes struck the passenger side of Mr. McCormick's vehicle.
According to police, both drivers were wearing seatbelts. Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.
