NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will be on hand at the Meadowlands for a rally to celebrate the Giants' victory in the Super Bowl.
The rally is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Met Life stadium on Tuesday, following a ticker tape parade through Lower Manhattan's "Canyon of Heroes."
Officials are planning a special welcome for the Giants when their charter plane lands at Newark Liberty International Airport Monday afternoon.
The Port Authority says a water cannon will salute the Super Bowl champions as their plane taxis to a hangar. The players will get on buses before heading to the team's headquarters in East Rutherford.
The Giants captured the franchise's fourth Super Bowl championship on Sunday, with a 21-17 victory over the New England Patriots. New York only trails Pittsburgh with six, and San Francisco and Dallas with five, and became the first team to win the title after finishing the regular season 9-7. The Giants had an up-and-down year, but finished with wins over the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys, securing the NFC East title, before winning four consecutive postseason games.
