D.C. cop found guilty of killing mistress, baby

A Prince George's County jury on Thursday found a D.C. police officer guilty of fatally shooting his mistress and leaving their 1-year-old child to die in a sweltering car, prosecutors said.

Richmond Diallo Phillips, 40, was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder in the 2011 deaths of 20-year-old Wynetta Wright and their daughter, Jaylin Wright. Prosecutors had said Phillips, who is married, killed the two in a bid to get out of a paternity suit.

Wright went to meet Phillips the evening of May 30, 2011, in a Temple Hills park to discuss the paternity hearing scheduled the next day in Prince George's County court. She never showed up for the hearing and her body was discovered in the same park several days later. Jaylin's body was found in her mother's car, which was parked up the road, it's doors closed and its windows rolled up.

The jury found Phillips guilty of all four counts against him, including the two murder charges, use of a handgun in a crime of violence and first-degree child abuse. He faces a double life sentence without parole plus 20 years in jail when he is sentenced March 22.
